Abstract
Enterprise Architecture has long excelled at defining strategy, modeling future states, and articulating value. Yet a persistent gap remains between architectural ambition and realized outcomes. Valu3–Executable–Impact (VEI) introduces a unifying standard that bridges this gap—reframing architecture from a descriptive discipline into an operational engine that ensures value is not only envisioned, but executed and sustained. At its core, VEI elevates executability as the missing dimension required to transform architecture into measurable impact.
The Persistent Gap in Enterprise Architecture
Enterprise Architecture defines strategies, maps capabilities, and models target states with increasing sophistication. Yet a key question remains: Why does so much architecture fail to translate into measurable, sustained impact? The issue is not a lack of value—it is the absence of a reliable bridge between intent and execution.
The VEI Standard
VEI = Valu3 • Executable • Impact
Valu3: Effective, Efficient, Enduring
Executable: Realizable, Governable, Deliverable
Impact: Measurable, Meaningful, Sustained
Deconstructing Executable Architecture
Executability requires three critical capabilities:
1. Realizable — Feasible solution designs and actionable work packages.
2. Governable — Enforceable standards and traceability.
3. Deliverable — Alignment with real-world constraints such as time and resources.
Executable = Realizable + Governable + Deliverable
VEI Across the TOGAF ADM
Phase A: Define Valu3
Phases B–D: Engineer executability
Phases E–F: Ensure deliverability
Phase G: Enforce governance
Phase H: Measure impact
Conclusion
VEI establishes a new level of accountability. Architecture is no longer judged by elegance, but by executability and impact. The role of the architect evolves from modeler to orchestrator to executor of enterprise change.
